Clothes

• Please check that your child has the correct uniform, including pumps, in line with our uniform policy. 
• Please also ensure that all items of clothing, including pumps, PE kits and uniform are clearly labelled with your child's name. 

Bookbags

Please ensure that your child has their book bag at school every Wednesday. This will enable us to access their reading books and records and issue a new book. We now only change book bags on Wednesdays, so please try to bring them on the correct day.  Book bags will go home on a Friday.

PE

The children will do outdoor PE on a Thursday afternoon weather permitting. Please ensure that your child wears their outdoor PE kit to school on this day. Indoor PE will be on a Wednesday morning,  please ensure your child has their indoor PE clothes in school.

Homework

In Year 1 your child will be expected to complete reading, maths and spelling homework every week:

Reading - Reading books will be changed every Wednesday. All children will bring home a reading book with sounds they have been learning in phonics that week. Children will bring home a book every Friday and should read over the weekend before returning on Wednesday. Children will be familiar with the sounds in the book so should be encouraged to read with increasing speed. 

Maths - This will be linked to what your child has been learning in class that week and should be at an appropriate level for your child to work with some independence, though they may need some support at times. We will send the homework books out on a Wednesday and homework is due back in the following Wednesday morning. 

Spelling - Children will be set weekly Spelling Shed homework which they can complete  by using their own unique spelling login.

Harlow Carr Trip 2022 

We had an amazing day at Harlow Carr, we completed a tree session where we used and applied our knowledge from science about deciduous trees and evergreen trees. We then did a minibeast workshop which was great fun. The children looked for human features and physical features which links to our Geography work. We finished the day having fun in the most amazing parks. 

Our DT Enterprise Project

The children had a wonderful time researching, designing, making and evaluating as part of the Whingate Enterprise Project. The children made moving story books using levers and sliders for their stall.
